Patterns

Patterns consist of a sequence of Tae Kwon Do movements against an imaginary opponent. The learning, understanding and performing of the various patterns play a fundamental part in the learning of Tae Kwon Do. Similar to other martial arts Tae Kwon Do has a coloured belt grading system from White belt to Black belt and then onto Dan grades. For each of the coloured belts there is a Pattern to learn which range from the beginner Pattern named ‘Chon-Ji’ all the way to the Black Belt Pattern named ‘Choong-Moo.’

Sparring

There are various forms of Sparring in Tae Kwon Do. Three Step, Two step, One Step, Semi Free and Free Sparring. As with Patterns the learning, understanding and performing of the forms of sparring play a fundamental part in Tae Kwon Do and are required to achieve each belt. The Step Sparring is none contact and teaches Focus, Distance and Timing. The Free Sparring is semi-contact and the student must wear protective pads to prevent injury.
